Radiative Cooling

Passive Radiative Cooling Coating

Passive Radiative Cooling Coating combines high solar reflectance and infrared heat emission to support electricity-free cooling on roofs, equipment enclosures and other sun-exposed surfaces. Third-party tested solar reflectance: 0.93; hemispherical emittance: 0.92.

Product Overview

Passive Radiative Cooling Coating is a waterborne functional coating designed to reduce solar heat gain by combining high solar reflectance with strong infrared heat emission. Applied to suitable outdoor surfaces, it supports electricity-free passive thermal management while providing weather-resistant surface protection.

The system can be used on properly prepared concrete, metal roofs, industrial equipment housings and other sun-exposed building-envelope surfaces. A compatible primer and self-cleaning topcoat may be selected according to substrate and project conditions.

Key Features

  • Passive cooling mechanism: Reflects incoming solar radiation and releases heat through infrared emission, including the 8-13 μm atmospheric window.
  • Verified optical performance: Third-party test results report a solar reflectance of 0.93 and hemispherical emittance of 0.92.
  • Superhydrophobic self-cleaning option: A tested water contact angle of 152° helps reduce water and dirt adhesion.
  • Weather-resistant protection: No blistering, peeling or cracking was observed after 1000 h artificial weathering.
  • Low-VOC waterborne formulation: Tested VOC content is 16 g/L; formaldehyde, BTEX and tested heavy metals were not detected.
  • Strong coating integrity: Tested adhesion reached Grade 0, with no damage after 500 h neutral salt spray exposure.

Typical Applications

  • Industrial and commercial roofs
  • Warehouses and grain-storage buildings
  • Telecom cabinets and electrical equipment enclosures
  • Petrochemical storage tanks and industrial facilities
  • Concrete walls, metal panels and west-facing building surfaces

Application Guidelines

  1. Remove dust, oil, rust, loose material and damaged substrate. Repair cracks and ensure the surface is dry, firm and even.
  2. Apply the specified radiative-cooling primer. For the documented metal-substrate system, the recommended primer film thickness is approximately 100 μm.
  3. Mix the cooling coating thoroughly for at least 5 minutes. If adjustment is required, add no more than 10% clean water.
  4. Apply two coats. The documented target is approximately 200-250 μm per coat, with at least 6 hours between coats and a total cooling-coating thickness of 400-500 μm.
  5. Allow at least 24 hours after the second cooling coat before applying the compatible self-cleaning clear topcoat.
  6. Protect the completed system from water and testing for at least 24 hours. Final specification should be confirmed for the substrate, climate and service conditions.
